  • WILFRED with Elijah Wood oh god you of all people would like this one, that is genuinely dark, deep, weird and funny it's about a depressed (oops) guy who talks to his neighbour's dog and the acting is sooooooooo good that is the best show i've binge watched in years and i love it it is kinda hard to find a good comedy

  • i would recommend the society. Its about a highschool class that get trapped outside the rest of the world, and they have to start their own little society, and the show reflects some of todays' societys' problems. bad explanation, but FIRE SHOWWW

  • I feel like underrated was kind of loosely used in this video- I really enjoy film and tv show analysis, but I feel like this was just a little lacklustre, it was very shallow and kind of the bare bones of a review, maybe if you ever decide to make another video like this you could go more in depth on why each show you enjoy could be enjoyable to anyone else considering starting a new series? I may have just expected a bit more since "according to a film major" was in the title, which just makes it sound like the reviews would maybe have had a little commentary on each show, that would motivate some type of discussion about the shows you think everyone should watch.

  • I highly recommend Barry on HBO, it is SO GOOD!! Its a dark comedy about a depressed former marine who is a currently depressed hit man, his boss/uncle/father figure sends him to LA for a hit but he ends up taking an acting class. The show follows him trying trying to keep the little life he found in this acting class while he keeps being dragged back into the hitman world by others and his own bad decisions. The writing is amazing and all the characters are so well developed, its incredibly funny, the cinematography is beautiful and the story is compelling idk what else to say to make you watch it. Written by and stars Bill Hader (hes friends w john mulaney if thats helps)

  • If you like crime/ capitalism/ mental health I recommend “Extracurricular”, a korean drama on Netflix about a high schooler running a security business for prostitutes in order to afford college tuition. The episodes slowly unravel and escalate at such a perfect rate. The characters have so much dimensions, so you both hate and root for them at once. Not even talking about the great cinematography, watch it bc it shows the impacts of capitalism and focuses on mental health too 😩

  • ok so if any of you are into: 1) asian dramas 2) starring kpop/cpop idols 2) gay subtext (but i mean you'll still love it even without being into this) please i beg you WILL NOT REGRET IT watch "the untamed" its based of a BL novel and it's literally the #1 ranked chinese drama, and I TELL YOU IT'S SO GOOD probably best piece of film i have ever witnessed, and probably going to be my favorite series of all time- the co-stars are sean xiao and wang yibo, both of whom are biggie idols. I actually didn't even know they were idols until around the end of the series which seriously shocked me?? I thought they were professional actors because the acting is so damn brilliant and the character's are SO WELL DEVELOPED,, it's found on both netflix and on youtube :) it takes place in ancient china and the show really brings out the corruption in society... there's also an anime called mo dao zu shi which is basically the same thing as the "the untamed" but with some slight changes anyways happy watching yall

  • Ashley, please please watch the comedian Hannah Gadsby! Especially Nannette. So powerful. Everything she does is magic and I think you’ll really appreciate her mind. I was actually surprised she wasn’t listed in your comedy section! Nannette is one of a kind but all of her stuff is awesome. She’s Australian (as am I) - Nannette was on Netflix and huge here but maybe not so much in the US? She also has a couple of funny art history series which are genius and such an eye opener (based on things like the male gaze).

  • I remember "Tabula Rasa" being huge in Belgium (Flanders) when it came out, with everyone -including myself- clinging to the edge of their seats for 9 episodes, to step by step see the main character(Mie) heal from memory loss and see the pieces of a police investigation come together. available on Netflix Other 'world famous in Belgium' shows, genre comedy: > 'F.C. De Kampioenen' - stories about members of a soccer club, though not football-themed, where every episode centers around some kind of miscommunication. Ran 1990-2011, has had reruns on Saturdays and every day in summer up until present day and 4 movies about the characters > 'De Kotmadam' - you see the life of different students that rent a room in the house of Jeanne, who owns a candy store. Started in 1991 and will have 25 seasons. also, lots of reruns > 'W817' - another show about students living together, but for a children's network. 1999-2003, again reruns, reruns, reruns. In March of this year the actors announced the possibility of a movie if 50000 people would buy a ticket in advance within a month's time. They did. Unfortunately, I don't know if you can find these to watch in America, but if so, they are enjoyable, light, silly shows where you still laugh, even if it's aired for the 15th time.
